Perhaps, many would ask: What is sustaining the participants’ interest in a scheme that saw millions trapped in December when it was suspended, and they are uncertain about what January 14 holds? However, the responses of some participants, who spoke to Sunday Vanguard, may provide the answer.
Sunday Vanguard visited pro-MMM social platforms which include MMM Nigeria, MMM Nigeria Community, MMM Nigeria Team Support and MMM Nexus Solutions, to feel the pulse of the participants.
‘I’ m indifferent’ ‘’I am just indifferent about the resumption date because my investment is insignificant to me. If it comes back good, if it does not, it makes no meaning to me because I have moved on. That does not hide the fact that I am somehow optimistic that it would be back on the pledged date.
The model it would operate, this time, is what I don’t know and I am less bothered, ‘’Mathew Asuzu, who lives in Lagos, said. Joy Amasiobi has a different feeling about the expected resumption. She told Sunday Vanguard: ‘’It is MMM all the way. Nothing will happen to it because they care more about Nigerians than those, who created the panic that led to the freezing of our Mavros. The Federal Government that first raised the alarm through the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, can’t tell me they care about me; yet, the hardship that started with the coming of this government has made Nigeria uninhabitable. No, don’t tell me that.
We are wise enough in Nigeria to know what serves our interest. MMM cares about me and I am confident about getting my money when they resume. Even our funds which some haters described as trapped are growing within this period. So, would you call that a scam? A similar scheme that stopped before MMM and later came back, paid people their money, why will I doubt MMM that is even a bigger brand?” ‘Bad Christmas’ If Amasiobi was this confident and optimistic, it was a mixed bag for a widow, Mrs. Patience Igenewari, who is a petty trader. Her story sounded pathetic given that she collected all the money she had saved with a thrift collector at Agboju, Lagos just to participate in the scheme, but was among those, whose funds got trapped.
The development, she lamented, made the Christmas and New Year celebrations bad. “A young man, who lives in the same compound with me, told me about it and I became interested. I hesitated for two months before telling him to get me registered in December because I needed money for Christmas shopping for my four children. I sell corn and yam flour at Boundary Market in Ajegunle. I had to collect the savings I had with a thrift collector so that I could get something reasonable before Christmas. My brother, I can’t describe how devastated I was when they stopped MMM in December.
My elder daughter made it more painful because she was angry and laughed at me because she warned me against it. I am praying that they don’t change their mind next (this) week, ‘’ she said. Asked if she would reinvest if, eventually, she recoups her money, the Bayelsa State –born woman, said: ‘’Am I a fool?” Edo State-based Jennifer Ugbodu exuded hopefulness, as she told Sunday Vanguard there was no need for people to doubt the pledged date of resumption.
To her, there is nothing on the ground to suggest that the promoters would not keep their promise, noting that those who, she said didn’t mean well for MMM, were behind adverse news about MMM.
Her positive disposition ahead of the promised de-freezing of Mavros, MMM term for invested funds, is exceptional. ‘’MMM is coming back on January 14. I have nothing to be afraid of. Those saying they would not unfreeze our Mavros are those who don’t mean well. It is even the rich who are against it, because they have discovered that wealth is spreading and, through that way, social inequality will be bridged,” she stated. ‘’I am committed to MMM. That is why I provided help during this short period.
If I had no confidence in them, I would not have done that. It takes commitment for one to still provide help even when many are scared. When the Mavros are defreeze, I will remain with the scheme. So, tell the world that we are hopeful and most participants I know share same optimism.” Finish line Writing on a Facebook page, MMM Nigeria Community, through one Jeffery Mcintre, said: ‘’ We are few days close to the 14th of January. We have survived the Christmas holiday period and the massive demand for cash. And now we are almost close to the finish line.
You should know that these few days are going to be very difficult. It will always be a constant struggle to stay positive. And you should also remember that even in the darkest night there is always a brighter day. Anything good must pass through trials. It is also a test of our patience or endurance, and the sustainability of MMM is put to test. Without a shadow of doubt, I know we will come out stronger and victorious. No need to panic because we don’t need a pity party. So keep celebrating the new year in style, together we will change the world.”
Sunday Vanguard learnt that within this period of suspended activities, some innovation has been initiated by the promoters to the MMM scheme. Prominent among them is a phone number on its website believed to be for interaction with members. However, when Sunday Vanguard called the number, identified by True Caller as MMM Toll-Free Line, Lagos, Nigeria, the call did not go through. It has also changed the Guider’s button which is meant for ordinary participants only. A chat with someone on the MMM website, who goes by the name, Consultant Ogbonna, revealed that the status quo may not totally remain when the scheme resumes. He told Sunday Vanguard: ‘’ New models and features will be available soon Nothing of such will occur(referring to the likelihood of using the South African model for those, whose Mavros were frozen).
MMM Nigeria is built on solid foundation.” Comeback To assure subscribers of its determination to come back better, the scheme had on December 29, 2016, issued instructions to its members. The message as found by Sunday Vanguard on its website reads: “We all are part of the MMM worldwide Community. When someone needs financial help, he or she can ask for it and other participants will help him/her. At the same time, being an MMM member implies not only opportunities but also a responsibility for the state and development of the MMM Community.
MMM is our home, and we are responsible for building and refining it. “A lot of participants genuinely want to promote MMM, spread its ideology amongst people, though not always knowing what exactly has to be done. Therefore we have created a new PromoTasks section in the PO, which is added to various tasks: online and offline, easy and complicated, individual and team-oriented.
A member who will perform these tasks will be benefited, because the tasks will allow him to attract new referrals, build his structure (and get bonuses for that), and it will be useful the whole Community because more people will learn about MMM and its ideology.
In a special section of the MMM Personal Office, each member will find a variety of online and offline tasks. Tasks come with a detailed guide which is understandable even for inexperienced PC users. You can select on your own which tasks you will be doing today – you are free to choose any task and perform as many tasks as you want. “Not everything may go the way it is supposed to when it is done for the first time. Give it a try and do the tasks regularly! There can be different mistakes, but fulfilling tasks you will learn to use social media, forums, messengers, and other online resources for recruiting people to MMM and for the creation of positive awareness about our Community.
“For example, the task may guide a member to join a Facebook group and write a comment. to create some tweets on Twitter, like a YouTube video, share news on Google Plus, and make your website. There are also offline tasks: conducting home sharings, cafe meetings, organizing MavroPicnics, MavroParties or MavroGames. Doing the tasks you contribute to the Community’s progress. Thanks to you and other members doing the tasks, MMM gains more popularity in social media and gets more registrations and PHs.
MMM needs you and depends on your activity! Please accomplish as many tasks as you can and encourage others to do them regularly as well. It is obvious that the activity of MMM Nigeria members is growing. MMM is very proud of its members who are becoming kinder and more responsible.”
