A man has reportedly killed himself by hanging in the Ogida area of Benin City. The incident is the third to be reported in the last six days.
Last Thursday, man in his mid-30s, identified as Godwin, was said to have committed suicide because his wife jilted him at Kabayi, Mararaba, near Abuja.
Earlier, corpse of a 52-year-old man was found by the riverside by residents of Salvation Avenue in the Ajegunle, Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The latest occurred in the early hours of Friday, September 23. Residents rushed to the scene to catch a glimpse of the man who was found hanging from the ceiling of a sawmill in the market. Witnesses said the man was earlier seen in the area wandering in a sober mood, not knowing that he had plan to take his life.
The deceased, however, did not leave a suicide note behind. Cooked beans, loaves of bread and clothes were found beside his corpse. The Edo State Police Command spokesman, Theodore Okafor, who confirmed the incident, said that the corpse had been deposited in a mortuary for a post-mortem.
