How To Fix Camera Blank Screen on Android Devices

You may experienced problems when taking pictures with your Android smartphone. Sometimes after opening a camera
for a nice picture, you may find that you only see a black screen.

This issue is not very common but when it happens, it tends to be very
troublesome. When this happens, your Android device is not able to
record a video or take a picture at all. This roundup has some tips on
how to fix this issue and also some of the possible causes and get
their Android smartphone’s camera to working as expected.

Causes of the black screen issue when the camera is opened.

The camera shutter staying close

Damaged camera lens

Glitching system on the battery (this is very rare) locks up its
electronics.

The mirror might not be stuck up

The black screen issue can be difficult to fix
This problem is sometimes very hard to eliminate. If it is a software
issue, your chances of making the camera start working again. What I
mean is that this issue can be caused by a very bad malfunction and
there is only about 50 percent of fixing the problem.

Below are some of the solutions that might eliminate the problem

Battery pull

Pulling out your smartphone’s battery when it is powered on can
solve the issue. This process is quite similar to a soft reset and the
good part of it is that no lost is lost. However, this process cannot be
done for all smartphones since some of them especially the modern
ones with non-removable batteries. If that is the case, skip this step
and proceed to the next ones.

Power cycle your device

Power off your smartphone and then turn it on after 20 seconds if you
have not done already. A simple as it looks, this tip can fix small
software issues.

Get rid of any third party camera application

Begin by uninstalling any third-party camera apps that you’ve
downloaded on your device. The smartphone might have updated to a
more recent software and the developer of the camera application
might not have updated their application yet.

Software reset

After uninstalling the third party camera application, soft reset your
device once more by powering it off. You can do this by removing the
battery and reinserting after 20 seconds and power then power it on.
This might solve the problem.

Hard reset

If your phone is still showing the black screen, then the first thing you
have to do is performing a full backup of your phone’s data.  After
doing this, perform a full rest by erasing all your data. If it is a
software glitch, bug, virus, etc. performing a hard reset should fix this
problem. If you don’t know how to factory reset, read this guide on
how to factory reset an Android phone.

Hardware issue

If your phone is still showing a black screen after a hard reset, then
the problem is caused by a hardware related issue. This means that
the camera application has malfunctioned or the lens is broken. If this
is the case, take your smartphone for repair.
