The Nation reports a 40-year-old businessman, Cosmos Ajibo, who allegedly raped a 10-year-old girl, has been charged before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Kano.

The prosecutor, Inspector Junaidu Aminu, said at the court that the accused committed the offence on January 19, at about 5.00p.m in Unguwar Tsamiya Quarters, Takai local government.
According to him, he said one Barira Isyaku was the person who reported the case to Takai Police Division.
He said when the little girl went to buy biscuit, Ajibo dragged her to his room and “forcefully had unlawful sexual intercourse with the victim, which caused her harm.”
Although the case is punishable under Section 283 of the Penal Code, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
However, his counsel, Mr Casmir Agbueze, applied to the court for bail.
The senior Magistrate Kabiru Abubakar, granted the accused N300, 000 bail with one surety in like sum.
He said both the accused and surety shall deposit two recent passport photographs with the court. The case was adjourned to October 20.
Recall that over a year ago, a 42-year-old electrician identified as Taiwo Bakare was arrested by the Lagos state police for allegedly raping a 10-year-old primary school girl in his apartment.
According to reports, the man specializes in defiling and sexually harassing little girls at Igando area of the state. It was gathered that Bakare lured the victim (name withheld) who resides in the same street from her mother’s shop to his apartment where he had canal knowledge of her.
